CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

COACHING CAREER 

Is in his second season as hitting coach with Arizona…spent the previous 3 seasons in the same role with Texas (2013-15)...In 2016, the D-backs finished in the Top 3 in the NL in average (3rd, .261) and slugging pct. (3rd, .432)…Arizona also led the Majors with a franchise-best 56 triples...In 9 seasons as hitting coach with the Red Sox (2007-12) and Rangers (2003-06), his offense ranked among AL teams in extra-base hits (2nd, 4,728), doubles (2nd, 2,890), on-base percentage (3rd, .338), OPS (3rd, .768), runs per game (3rd, 4.89), runs scored (3rd, 7,129), slugging percentage (T-3rd, .430), average (4th, .268) and hits (4th, 13,475)…Boston also led the Majors in pitches per plate appearances (3.94) from 2007-12...During his first year with the Red Sox in 2007, the club won a World Series championship, and Dustin Pedroia earned AL Rookie of the Year honors…Pedroia was then named the league's Most Valuable Player the following season, hitting .326 with 54 doubles, 17 home runs and 83 RBI...Began his coaching career as the Padres' Minor League hitting coordinator in 2002.

PLAYING CAREER

Played 16 Major League seasons with the Mets (1986-92), Marlins (1993-94), Mariners (1993), Astros (1995), Cubs (1996), A's (1997-98) and Padres (1999-2001)…hit .288 with 42 home runs and 495 RBI in 1,582 games...Finished second in the NL in 1990 with a .417 on-base percentage and third with a .328 average…also established a Mets' record with a .998 fielding percentage at fi rst base...Selected by the Mets in the second round of the 1983 draft… was chosen by the Red Sox in the 12th round in 1980 but did not sign.

David Joseph Magadan...Married to Monique…has 4 children: Jordan, Christian, Peyton and Avery...Attended the University of Alabama…was a 3-time All-Southeastern Conference selection…in 1983, won USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award and was tabbed as the College Player of the Year by Baseball America and the SEC Player of the Year after leading all NCAA Division I batters with a .525 average...Inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 and University of Alabama's Sports Hall of Fame in 2014...Graduated from Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla...Is a cousin and godson of former Major League manager Lou Piniella.
