Signed with Yankees as a free agent in 1979...Went on to appear in 397 minor league games across five seasons (1979-83) in Yankees and Padres organizations...Played primarily as a second baseman...Tabbed as 1981 High-A Fort Lauderdale Team MVP in 1981...Attended University of Maine as a freshman in 1976 and played both baseball and basketball...Transferred to Valencia Community College and was named Florida Junior College Player of the Year in 1977...Moved to Florida Southern College for two years and was a member of 1978 National Championship team...Completed bachelor's degree in physical education in 1980, the year after his first pro season...Worked as an assistant coach at Eckerd College in Florida from 1980-81...Inducted into Maine Baseball Hall of Fame Aug. 3, 2014...Son of the late Jack Butterfield...Jack at one time served as Vice President of Player Development and Scouting for Yankees.
