Joins Nationals staff as third base coach...was named to the post by Manny Acta on October 24, 2008...makes big
league coaching debut after 9 campaigns as manager or coach in the Cubs farm chain...managed 3-plus seasons
in minors and owns career managerial mark of 253-221 (.534)...skippered clubs to post-season appearances in 2 of
\3 full seasons as manager...in 2008, was named the PCL Manager of the Year, leading the Triple-A Iowa Cubs to an
83-59 (.585) first-place finish in the PCLs American North Division...managed 2 seasons with the Double-A Tennessee
Smokies from 2006-07 and made the playoffs in 07...also skippered Iowa for 55 games at the end of the 2002
season, as he was elevated from his position as the teams hitting coach when Bruce Kimm was promoted by CHI...
served 6 seasons as a hitting coach5 with Iowa from 2001-05 and one with Single-A Lansing in 2000...managed the

Playing Career
Played 6 seasons in the big leagues...burst onto the scene with MIL in 1992, winning the AL Rookie of the Year award
after hitting .290 with 47 RBI and 54 stolen bases, the 2nd-highest stolen base total in the league...primarily a shortstop,
he also played defensively at 2B, 3B and all 3 outfield positions...over 6-year career, hit .251 (444-for-1772) with
116 stolen bases in 503 games...retired as a player after playing 88 minor-league contests in 1998...selected by MIL
in 5th round of 1988 First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University...helped the Sun Devils earn a berth in the
1988 College World Series.

baseball...played collegiately at Arizona State University, and was member of 1988 squad that lost to Stanford in
