Full name is Carsten Charles Sabathia... he and his wife, Amber, have one son, Carsten Charles III (5) and two daughters, Jaden Arie (3) and Cyia Cathleen (born October 2008)... attended Vallejo Senior High School where he compiled a mark of 6-0 with a 0.77 ERA (46.2IP, 14H, 4ER, 14BB, 82K) during his senior season... was the top high school prospect coming out of Northern California according to Baseball America... was also an allconference tight end in football at Vallejo... had scholarship offers to play college football and had signed a letter of intent at Hawaii... was selected to the 2000 United States Olympic Team Roster and appeared in one pre-Olympic tournament game in Sydney, Australia, but was not on the official 24-man, Gold Medal-winning roster...In 2008, established the CC Sabathia Family Foundation's "PitCCh In" along with his wife, Amber...the program is committed to the care and needs of inner-city children while helping to raise self-esteem through sports activities and education...Hosted a Sleep-In for some 300 Cleveland-area children in need in November 2008... provided hundreds of holiday gifts to children in need through "Toys for Tots" in 2007 and 2008... purchased 500 tickets to a Golden State Warriors basketball game in 2009 and distributed them to children from the Boys & Girls Clubs in Oakland and Vallejo... assisted in funding two programs for inner-city children at Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation in 2009... purchased lights for the 2008 Macy's Holiday Tree as part of a fundraising benefit for the University of California-San Francisco Children's Hospital... is a regular visitor at the Children's Hospital in Oakland...Was a regular participant in the Indians' Winter Press Caravan and was involved in numerous community endeavors during his tenure with Cleveland, including: OfficeMax Parent-Child Clinics, the Larry Doby RBI Program, Red Cross' "Fire Prevention Week", the Cleveland Scholarship Program, Grand Slam Summer Literacy, High Achievers and the Giant Eagle week-long baseball camps... was also a regular visitor to area hospitals as part of the "Tribe Loving Care" program... regularly purchases and distributes turkeys at Thanksgiving and Christmas... co-chaired the Swim for Diabetes and participated in the Dick's Sporting Goods "Shop with a Pro" in 2006-07... danced in the Oakland Ballet's "Nutcracker" in 2005 along with Barry Zito and Tony LaRussa... organized the Sabathia Baseball Clinic in his hometown of Vallejo in 2003 and annually donates food and toys around the holidays to the Vallejo Boys & Girls Club...In 2005, teamed with Barry Zito's foundation "Strikeouts For Troops," a national program which provides "comforts of home" to wounded troops being treated in military hospitals nationwide and assists their families...
