Biography:
Aaron Michael Heilman graduated from Logansport (IN) High School...Was an All-State selection in baseball...Was a management information systems and philosophy major in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame...Graduated in 2001...As a senior at Notre Dame, Aaron was 15-0 in 15 starts...Finished sixth in the nation with a 1.74 ERA...In 114.0 innings, he allowed 70 hits, 28 runs, 20 earned, with 31 walks and 110 strikeouts...Also collected 12 complete games and hurled three shutouts...Was named a first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball magazine all four years at Notre Dame...Compiled a 43-7 record with a 2.49 ERA in his four seasons with the Irish...In 83 games, 43 starts, he tossed 26 complete games, with six shutouts...In 393.2 innings, he permitted 295 hits, 109 runs, with 114 walks and 425 strikeouts...Is one of only 15 Division I players to reach 40 career wins...Led the nation with a 1.61 ERA as a freshman pitching out of the bullpen...Named National Co-Freshman of the Year by Collegiate Baseball...Set a Big East single-game record with 18 strikeouts on April 15, 2000 at West Virginia...Was named the Big East's Pitcher of the Year in 2000 and 2001...Played for Team USA in 1999...Was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 31st round of the June, 2000 Draft, but did not sign...Along with Charlie Weis, served as a keynote speaker at the annual Notre Dame Baseball Opening Night Dinner on Feb. 6, 2006.
Aaron went 3-8 with three saves and a 5.21 ERA (44 ER/76.0 IP) in 78 relief appearances with New York.
