THAT'S THE WAY BASEBALL GO
Rangers Co-Chairman Bob Simpson and his wife, Janice, have written a song and dedicated it to Rangers Manager Ron Washington. That's the Way Baseball Go, is a modification of the 1983 Merle Haggard Grammy Award-winning #1 hit That's the Way Love Goes. The Rangers rendition was recorded by Mr. Haggard in July in a special recording session at his home in California.
The song is available for download on iTunes and the Simpsons' share of the proceeds from the downloads will go to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.

The Foundation places an emphasis on supporting four areas:
In 2005, the Texas Rangers entered into a long-term partnership with the Miracle League on a new Texas Rangers Miracle League Field in Arlington through financial support from the Foundation and former Rangers pitcher Chan Ho Park. The Miracle League's mission is to provide opportunities for all children to play baseball regardless of their abilities. Rangers alumni, Rangers Captain, and Rangers executives visit Miracle League games each year. Last year's event was held in May when nearly 600 Miracle League participants and family members came out to Rangers Ballpark. In December, Ian and Tess Kinsler and the Rangers Foundation made a financial contribution of $10,000 to the Miracle League along with in-kind contributions of gloves and equipment, after the League's storage facility and building was destroyed in a fire started by vandals.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Rangers players are committed to giving children in the Dallas/Fort Worth community the opportunity to play baseball. In 2010, the Foundation and the players helped more than 2,300 youngsters play ball under the umbrella of Major League Baseball's RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) and Jr. RBI programs.
The Foundation partners with the City of Dallas, Dallas Independent School District, and Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington and Fort Worth to provide young players gloves, uniforms, bats, and cleats. In addition, the children participated in numerous camps and clinics at Rangers Ballpark to learn more about the game of baseball. The RBI and Jr. RBI leagues were also the beneficiary of the Texas Rangers and Baseball Tomorrow Fund Equipment Drive and recipients of a $5,000 grant, sponsored by Academy Sports + Outdoors, FOX Sports Southwest, and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. Frank Francisco served as the spokesperson for the drive and led the effort to collect significant amounts of equipment from his teammates.
In April 2011, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre made a grant of $25,000 to the program in Dallas to continue to develop young baseball players and provide meaningful experiences to students across Dallas.
The Foundation awards six Richard Greene Scholarships each year to students in the Arlington Independent School District. The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation has pledged $1 million over 20 years to fund these scholarships in honor of former Arlington Mayor Richard Greene, who served when the ballpark was being planned and opened. Scholars are selected as juniors and participate in six six-week internships during their senior year of high school. Upon graduation, they are rewarded with a $10,000 scholarship. In 2010, the University of Texas - Arlington committed to providing full tuition scholarships to any Richard Greene Scholar who chooses to attend the university.
Each year, every MLB team provides a scholarship of up to $7,500 to a minority high school student who shows leadership potential and demonstrates financial need to attend an accredited four year college or university.
In continued support of the higher education dreams of area students, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation awards scholarships to employees and the children of employees of the Texas Rangers and Sportservice, the ballpark's concessionaire. In 2010, eight promising young students were given Johnny Oates Scholarships. Since its inception in 1992, more than 220 scholarships have been given.
In 2005, Cindy Kuster, daughter of Mark and Alice Holtz, established the Hello Win Column Fund in memory of her parents to support the American Cancer Society as well as local Dallas/Fort Worth area cancer programs. Cindy and Jeff Kuster host approximately 50 families who are battling this disease at Rangers Ballpark each season. Each year, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation provides four $2,000 journalism scholarships in Mark Holtz's honor to seniors studying journalism at TCU and the University of Texas - Arlington.
Created upon Nolan Ryan's retirement from Major League Baseball in 1993, one female and one male graduating senior from Alvin High School, the alma mater of Nolan and Ruth Ryan, are awarded Nolan Ryan Scholarships. These scholarships are based on academics, school and community activities, and financial needs, require that the recipient have participated in a high school sport for four years. Thirty-two scholarships have been granted to date.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Volunteers of America Texas established a mentorship program in 2009 with Polytechnic High School and have continued this program in 2010 with Diamond - Hill - Jarvis High School in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Each student was matched with a mentor to guide them throughout the school year. Mentors and the students met at Rangers Ballpark or Diamond Hill-Jarvis each month during the school year for special sessions. Topics for these sessions include interviewing and applying for jobs, financial literacy, importance of community service, etiquette, goal setting, healthy living, and more. The students were selected by school counselors at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School. In addition to the monthly events, the mentors and students attend Rangers games and meet an additional two to three times per month.
In September of 2010, the Rangers Foundation announced a partnership with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Storyopolis to fight illiteracy among children in Arlington. Each month, noted children's authors and illustrators visit Arlington schools and then attend evening events for the community to share their passion for stories and reading. The mission of the speaker series is to promote a love for reading by making available the opportunity for young readers and their families to meet some of the world's best authors and illustrators. Realizing that getting kids excited about reading further helps ensure success in school, the speaker series inspires children to read by sparking their imaginations and creativity.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Medical Center of Arlington joined forces to combat childhood obesity. Teaming with the Arlington Independent School District, the MCA Fitness All-Stars program provided students, parents, and teachers with additional tools to maintain healthy and active lifestyles. The program, used in fifth-grade classrooms at all 53 of the district's elementary schools, includes a DVD, in-school presentations from official mascot Rangers Captain, health advisors from MCA, and members of the Arlington Fire Department to get kids excited about making healthy life choices on a matter of subjects.
Rangers pitcher Tommy Hunter will be involved with the program in 2011. Hunter will appear in the program's poster and make appearances at schools as part of the presentation and join in the field presentation honoring the School of the Year. Additional current and former Rangers players participated in school appearances, including Engel Beltre, Jose Felix, and Pete O'Brien. To provide motivation for the students to improve their fitness efforts, each school selected a monthly MCA Fitness All-Star. Each year, the school with the most participation is recognized and rewarded with a special prize. In 2010, the Rangers honored Wimbish Elementary School as the Texas Rangers MCA Fitness All-Stars School of the Year on May 11 in a pre-game ceremony. The fifth-grade students from Wimbish along with their families were provided complimentary tickets to watch the Rangers take on the Oakland Athletics that night.
In January 2011, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation announced a partnership with the Taylor Hooton Foundation to bring the important lessons of the Hooton Foundation and the dangers of steroids and performance enhancing or improving drugs to the students in junior and senior high schools in the Arlington Independent School District. More school districts will be added as the program develops.
For more than eleven years, the Foundation has hosted children in one of the most unique summer camps in the area. In 2010, nearly 150 children from Fort Worth's Lena Pope Home spent the month of June touring Rangers Ballpark, horseback riding, learning to fish, understanding the mysteries of space at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and being a guest sportscaster at FOX Sports Southwest. Through support from Teammates for Kids and Rangers broadcast partner FOX.
On Wednesday, August 19, 2009, Rangers Bench Coach Jackie Moore and his wife, Jo Ann, along with Hawaiian Falls and the Foundation, hosted nearly 100 guests from Snowball Express at the Mansfield Hawaiian Falls location for a "Snowflake Event."
Snowball Express is an organization that provides hope and opportunities to create new memories for the children of military fallen heroes who have died while on active duty since September 11, 2001. The families were treated to a day at the waterpark, including lunch, and attended the final Rangers game of the season on Sunday, September 27, when the Rangers faced the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Foundation also hosted the families of two such officers for the game. This year's event is scheduled for July 23.
Throughout the year, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation raises funds through special events, in-game auctions, corporate donations, and the newly-created Foundation membership program. It is with the generosity of participants that the Foundation is able to continue to make a positive difference within our community.
