(ORLANDO, Florida) - In the third and final game of the 14U National Team Trials, the Red Team won its second straight game over the Blue Team, 6-1.

The mood surrounding Payne Stewart Athletic Complex at The First Academy Tuesday evening was filled with focus and determination as the 30 invites to the USA Baseball 14U National Team were trying to make one more lasting impressions on the coaching staff before final post-game cuts were made.

According to the coaches, choosing the final 18 to compete in the COPABE "A" Pan-Am Games in Salinas, Puerto Rico is never an easy task. "The talent level here is phenomenal, these kids are really good baseball players," said Assistant Coach George Sanchez (Gilbert, AZ).

Both squads came out playing excellent defense, highlighted by the Blue Team's Zach Davies (Gilbert, AZ) and Zach Domingues (Visalia, CA), who turned a text book 6-4-3 double play to end the first inning. The Red squad flashed some leather of it's own then turned its good defense into offense in the second inning when Cabe Reiten (Spanaway, WA) singled to start the inning and was later plated by Andre Real's (Orange, CA) double in the left-centerfield gap putting the Red Team up 1-0.

Dean Lockwood (Royal Palm Beach, FL) came in to pitch in the third inning and threw efficiently, setting the Red Team down in 1-2-3 order. Not to be outdone by his pitching performance, Lockwood then carried his momentum over to the plate as he led off the bottom half with a solo homerun to right field. Lockwood finished the night throwing two scoreless - allowing no hits and no walks - and going 1-1 with a HR at the plate.

Not to be shown up by his teammate, Dante Flores (Los Angeles, CA) came in to strikeout the side in the fifth inning. Continuing the excellent play for the night, the Red Team added to its score in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff homerun by Austin Davidson (Oxnard, CA). Then Colin Reed (Belmont, CA) singled and stole second then scored on an errant throw to first by third baseman Tyler Davis (Mountain View, CA). The Red Team added another run when Tyler Kiefer (San Jose, CA) scored on an RBI double by Adrian Franco (West Covina, CA). At the end of the fifth inning the score was 5-0 Red Team.

The Blue Team finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Tyler Davis (Mountain View, CA) redeemed an earlier error in the field by belting a homerun over the left-centerfield wall. The rally was short lived as the Blue Team was only able to muster up the one run leaving the score 5-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The Red Team added one run in the bottom half to wrap things up 6-1.

Director of the 14U National Team Rick Riccobono said "We are in the fortunate position to have some difficult decisions to make. The hard work and high level of competition by all 30 players here at trials will undoubtedly contribute to Team USA's goal of winning gold."

The 14U National Team will be announced Tuesday night at a players-only meeting. Those selected to the team will have only have three days to prepare for the Pan-Am Games on Nov. 24.
