USA Baseball will host its inaugural National Team Camp on June 30 and July 1, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The camp, geared toward youth ages 8-17, will run each day from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Camp instructors will include former Los Angeles Dodger and 2008 United States Olympic Baseball Team hitting coach Reggie Smith. Smith was also the hitting coach on the gold medal winning 2000 United States Olympic Baseball Team. Joining Smith on the list of instructors are seven current Division 1 college baseball head coaches from across the country, including 2008 USA Baseball National Team head coach Rob Walton (Oral Roberts University).

2008 USA Baseball National Team Players

Campers will receive instruction in all areas of the game with an emphasis on a understanding what it takes to play at the National Team level. 2008 USA Baseball National Team members (collegiate players) will serve as guest instructors each day and campers will shadow the players as they prepare for the games the nights of June 30 and July 1.

“We are pleased to have such a distinguished list of instructors with such a diverse baseball background for this inaugural National Team Camp in Cary,” said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball’s General Manager National Team. “We feel having the campers shadow the National Team players as they prepare for their games will provide a unique an unmatched camp experience.”

The camp will be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary. The complex opened in June 2007 and serves as the home for the USA Baseball National Teams. It most recently has hosted the entire 2008 University of North Carolina baseball schedule while the team’s stadium has been under renovation.
