USA BASEBALL NATIONAL TEAM ROUTS GEORGIA ALL STARS 14-1

  • ARIETTA, GA --- The USA Baseball National Team pounded out 16 hits and scored a season-high 14 runs in a 14-1 win over the Georgia Collegiate All-Stars Monday night at Lassiter High School.

    Team USA remained undefeated at 11-0 on the year with the win and will next face Germany in a two-game series starting tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Rome, Ga.

    J.P. Arencibia’s (Tennessee) RBI single and Darwin Barney’s (Oregon State) sacrifice fly RBI in the first staked Team USA to a 2-0 lead.

    The US blew the game open with a four-run second inning, capped off by a three-run homer by Arencibia.

    A RBI double by Preston Clark (Texas) and a two-run homer by Julio Borbon (Tennessee) extended the lead to 9-0 in the third.

    Josh Reddick’s solo homer got the All Stars on the board in the bottom of the third.

    Jemile Weeks (Miami) hit his team leading third homer of the summer, a two-run shot, in the fifth to extend the USA lead to 11-1.

    Sean Doolittle (Virginia) hit the team’s fourth homer of the night, a three-run shot in the top of the sixth to make it 14-1.

    Ross Detwiler (Missouri State) picked up the win for USA, allowing one run on four hits in five innings with six strikeouts and two walks. Darwin Barney and Tim Federowicz (North Carolina) both made their pitching debuts for the team with an inning of scoreless relief each.

    Cole St. Clair (Rice) and Daniel Moskos (Clemson) closed out the game with an inning of scoreless relief as well.

    Several USA players had stellar offensive numbers on the night. Weeks went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, a homer and two RBI. Doolittle and Arencibia both had four RBI while Borbon added three hits to help lead the way.
