THREE NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAM, RUSSO COLLECTS INDIVIDUAL PITCHING AWARD

  • TAIPEI, Taiwan --- Third baseman Donna Mills (Lynn, MA) was voted the IBAF Women's World Cup Most Valuable Player as Team USA received its gold medals at the closing ceremony tonight at Tienmu Baseball Stadium. Mills also received an award for totaling the highest number of RBI recorded in the tournament with 13.

    Pitcher Trista Russo (Galway, NY) was awarded the individual honor for posting the best win-loss record after collecting the decision in the victory against Japan earlier today. Russo was 1-0 and had a team-high eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.

    Mills, batted .474 and led Team USA with nine hits while adding seven runs scored and three doubles. Mills was instrumental in the win today, driving in four runs while going 2 for 3 at the plate.

    Mills was selected to the All-Star team as the tournament's best third baseman and joins outfielders Bridget Venturi-Veneema (Deerfield, IL) and Kim Braatz-Voisard (Phoenix, AZ), who were also named tournament All-Stars.

    Venturi-Veneema and Braatz-Voisard were errorless defensively, starting in all six games for Team USA. Venturi-Veneema batted .444 with eight hits, four RBI and two stolen bases while Braatz-Voisard hit .389 with seven hits, three doubles and four runs batted in.
