Blue team defeats the Red team, 6-2

  • Ft. Lauderdale, FL - On Tuesday, the Youth National Team Trials continued with a second game in as many days, as the home Blue team beat the Red team 6-2, in a pre-determined 10 inning game on the campus of Nova Southeastern University. Each team is (1-1).

    The Red team led early; claiming a 1st inning lead when the 2nd batter of the game, Tyler Rahmatulla (Mission Viejo, CA) drilled a solo home run. Rahmatulla was the only player with multiple hits (2-5). It was the lone run that Blue team starter Tyler Johnson (Trussville, AL) allowed in his 3 innings. Brock Duke (Salem, UT) protected the early lead for the Red team (3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K) with a strong starting appearance.

    The Blue team took the lead permanently in the 6th inning, and had 2-RBI efforts from both Jacob Morris (Flower Mound, TX) and Matt Purke (Lufkin, TX). Purke also saved the game with two scoreless innings.

    Kyle Skipworth (Riverside, CA) doubled in his first at-bat of the game, sending his string of doubles to three, beginning the trials week. He finished (1-3).

    Pitchers combined for 20 strikeouts, following a 24 strikeout total on Monday.

    The week of trials consists of 36 players vying for 18 National Team roster spots, which will be announced on July 28th, for the chance to represent the United States in the COPABE Youth Pan-American Championships, scheduled in Barquisimeto, Venezuela from August 4th - 13th.
