THREE HOME RUNS FEATURED IN THURSDAY'S YNT TRIALS GAME

In Thursday's Youth National Team Trials intrasquad game, the Blue team (2-1) beat the Red team (1-2), 6-5. Dimitri De La Fuente's (West Covina, CA) 2-run homer in the 8th inning off Ray Hanson (Long Beach, CA), proved to be the game-winning hit. Roe Jones (St. Gabriel, LA) hit an earlier homer, in the 3rd inning, providing the Blue with a 3-0 lead.
The Red team started its comeback in the 4th, when (1B) Colton Cain (Waxahachie, TX) homered off reliever Tyler Hibbs, making it 3-1 Blue. The Red earned their first lead of the game in a four run 6th inning, keyed by a Corey Thompson (Apex, NC) 2-run single. The Red turned a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead in that 6th. The Blue recaptured the lead in the 8th, with the De La Fuente 2-run homer. D.J. Hicks (Altamonte Springs, FL) was aboard at the time of the homer, as he reached three times, with a pair of doubles and a walk.
Blue starter, Tyler Matzek (Mission Viejo, CA) worked three scoreless innings, with four strikeouts in succession.
The week of trials consists of 36 players vying for 18 National Team roster spots, which will be announced on July 28th, for the chance to represent the United States in the COPABE Youth Pan-American Championships, scheduled in Barquisimeto, Venezuela from August 4th - 13th.
