D.J. HICKS POWERS BLUE TEAM TO A 7-3 WIN OVER RED IN YNTT

In the final game of the Youth National Team Trial phase, the Blue (3-1) beat the Red (1-3), 7-3 in intrasquad play, in a game that finished five hours after the scheduled 10:30 AM start time due to scattered showers. The Youth National Team will be announced tonight.
(1B) D.J. Hicks (Altamonte Springs, FL) drilled a 1st inning 3-run homer off Ronnie Richardson (Eagle Lake, FL), which was followed by a solo homer by Harold Martinez (Miami, FL), providing the Blue team with a 4-0 lead, which proved to be enough. Hicks added an RBI single in the 3rd inning, and Martinez added a 6th inning double and run scored. Dimitri De La Fuente (West Covina, CA) homered for the 2nd straight day; a solo shot in the 8th. He finished (2-2, 2 RBI).
Blue reliever Matt Purke (Lufkin, TX) earned his first win, by completing three scoreless innings in relief of Harlyn Griffiths (Scottsdale, AZ). Purke's line - (3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 4 K).
The week of trials consists of 36 players vying for 18 National Team roster spots, which will be announced on July 28th, for the chance to represent the United States in the COPABE Youth Pan-American Championships, scheduled in Barquisimeto, Venezuela from August 4th - 13th.
