YOUTH NATIONAL TEAM WINS FIRST EXHIBITION GAME IN TRAINING

  • The 2006 Youth National Baseball Team won their first exhibition game; a 9-8 win over Broward Community College, in the first of four scheduled training games leading up to the Pan-American Championship Tournament in Venezuela.

    Ryan Weber (St. Petersburg, FL) earned the win in relief for Team USA, working scoreless 8th and 9th innings, using effective sinkers and sliders.

    Ronnie Richardson (Eagle Lake, FL) had two hits and scored twice; their only player with multiple hits. Mychal Givens (Tampa, FL) reached base all three times (2 BB's, HBP).

    For the last week, 36 invitees competed in the Youth National Team Trials in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on the campus of Nova Southeastern University, for half the number of available roster spots, which are now filled.

    TEAM USA strives for its first COPABE Gold Medal since 2000 at the Youth level. The tournament begins on August 4th in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.
