The six games of Round 1's Pool A were held at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo. Pool A teams included China, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Korea. Round 1 was double elimination and saw China and Chinese Taipei being eliminated. Korea and Japan advanced to Round 2 in San Diego, California.
