There are close to 3,000 baseball players in Israel, including youth leagues and adult leagues, as well as national teams taking part in international play. For the past 25 years, amateur play has been run by the Israel Association of Baseball, a nonprofit organization charged with developing the sport. Former Major Leaguers Shawn Green and Gabe Kapler played in the 2013 qualifier for the Israel squad, which was managed by former big league catcher Brad Ausmus.
