Southeastern Lexington will face the winner of the 2:30 p.m. CT semifinal contest between the Norwalk (CA) Stingrays (USSSA) and Orlando (FL) Juice 12's (AAU) for the National Youth Baseball 12-and-under Championship. The championship game will follow the 2:30 p.m. CT semifinal game.
In Southeastern Lexington's win, P John Hisel tossed a complete game for the victory, allowing only four hits in 6.0 innings pitched. Hisel had recorded a win in Southeastern Lexington's first win of the tournament (Friday's 7-6 win vs. Orlando's Juice 12's) and recorded a save in Saturday's 6-4 win vs. Blossom Valley.
"We watched and managed John very closely," said Southeastern Lexington Head Coach Ken Jackson. "He threw about 120 pitches over three days, and I'm very comfortable with that."
Added Coach Jackson: "We thought we'd put on a good show in the tournament. We went to big-barrel bats to compete with the travel teams, but, after one time through the lineup on Friday, we switched back. You just don't get the same bat speed."
For Southeastern Lexington, SS Devin Hairston went 2-for-2 with two RBI doubles and a walk. CF Luke Rouse and RF Tyler Wagner also had two RBI apiece.
The "National Youth Baseball Championships" is the initial effort of the "Major Youth Baseball Alliance, LLC." The MYBA is a newly formed company comprised of eight major youth organizations, including AABC (American Amateur Baseball Congress), AAU (Amateur Athletic Union of the United States), Babe Ruth Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball, NABF (National Amateur Baseball Federation), PONY Baseball, Super Series Baseball of America and USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association).
The four-day tournament is being played at Gameday Baseball's First Tennessee Fields in Memphis.
Tomateros de California (USSSA) from Paramount, California, was crowned the tournament's first ever 10-and-under champion on Saturday, defeating Orlando's Juice 10's (AAU), 7-6.
